Ping!’s First Month: A Triumph for independent Journalism

local journalism is changing, and ping! is proud to be among the organisations helping to reshape this vital industry

Month one of the Ping! free trial came and went in the blink of an eye, with a staggering number of ready-to-publish multimedia stories provided to regional and national news publishers all over the UK.

During this initial month, the platform has been bustling with activity, boasting over 43 hyperlocal publishers who uploaded 1,324 stories between them.

That's an average of 331 stories per week and around 46 stories each day, a constant stream of high quality, community-driven content, provided exclusively by members of ICNN.

What's more, at least 86 unique stories have been picked up by our subscribers, with some even going national.

Among these were stories that made the front pages, page leads, most-commented and most-read stories, plus those that have created waves of engagement on social media.

The front page of Newsquest’s Pontypool Free Press dominated by Ping! stories

We had fantastic stories about hedgehogs being rescued in supermarket carparks; snakes being found on the school run; a football club accepting Bitcoin, a roundabout that no one seems to know how to use, a woman who defied the odds after suffering huge injuries in a four-storey fall, and many more.

Ping! provides a steady stream of content from all across the UK, covering local councils, planning decisions, court hearings, sports and local business news - the bread and butter of local journalism.
